A number of leading AI experts in the United States have expressed their concern that China is set to overtake them in the race to develop the cutting-edge and revolutionary technology.

US telecommunications incumbent AT&T has responded to speculation regarding the possible sale of its smart data centers. A representative of the operator has confirmed it is currently assessing that option as a possibility in a bid to raise capital to invest in both its wireless and video business units.

The US state of Virginia has announced that it has selected a mobility analytics expert to integrate an intelligent transportation system aimed at alleviating and addressing urban mobility issues that have plagued the state.

Nokia has been selected by Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) to enhance the microwave communications network that supports a range of mission-critical services for the utility's power transmission and distribution grid. The new network, based on packet microwave technology, is intended to support power delivery and reliability for KCP&L's more than 800,000 customers in and around Kansas City, Missouri as well as parts of neighboring state of Kansas.

Digital transformation and disruption is driven by IoT (Internet of Things), increasing cloud IP traffic, artificial intelligence (AI), software-centricity, and pervasive security, according to Josh Goodell, VP, Intelligent Edge, AT&T, speaking at MEF 2017 in Orlando, Florida. Goodell has led the initiative to redefine and deploy AT&T's first SDN capabilities to enable fully automated service delivery to drive down costs.
