US technology behemoth Google has announced that it will spend $13bn in expanding its US data centre network.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has said the construction of new data centres and office facilities all over the US will lead to the creation of 10,000 new jobs.
The CEO said, “These new investments will give us the capacity to hire tens of thousands of employees, and enable the creation of more than 10,000 new construction jobs in Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia. 2019 marks the second year in a row we'll be growing faster outside of the Bay Area than in it."
The ambitious expansion plans will result in Google having a presence in 24 states in the US. In 2018, the US internet search giant recruited more than 10,000 people in the United States and invested $9bn in the country which Google’s CEO claims reiterates its commitment to the US economy.
Pichai added, “Our expansion across the US has been crucial to finding great new talent, improving the services that people use every day, and investing in our business.”
In addition to this, Google has also confirmed that it will invest more in sales for its lucrative cloud portfolio business.
Google’s newly appointed cloud chief, former Oracle executive Thomas Kurian, said, "You will see us accelerate the growth even faster than we have to date. We are hiring some of the best talent from around the industry to grow our sales organisation - and you will see us competing much more aggressively as we go forward."
