Apple employees are set to fulfill the vision of late founder Steve Jobs by moving into their futuristic new 'spaceship' campus in Silicon Valley. Apple employs are 12,000 people- so workers will embark on a gradual process of transitioning from its old HQ to the new campus throughout the year. The first number of employees to board the spaceship campus is expected to take place in April. Jobs envisioned the futuristic headquarters as a 'center for creativity and collaboration' and a theatre on the new Apple Park has been named in honor of the inventor who transformed Apple into the biggest technology companies in the world. Jobs sadly passed away in 2011 aged just 56.
Apple CEO, Tim Cook paid tribute to the late Apple co-founder and praised him for his incredible visionary capabilities. Cook said: "Steve's vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come." Apple Park will consist of a 175-acre campus with a ring-shaped main building clad in giant panels of curved glass blends, workspaces and parkland - and is powered entirely by renewable energy. Also included in the state-of-the-art facility is a fitness center, research laboratories and an orchard.
Apple chief design officer Jony Ive said they approached the project with the same verve and enthusiasm as they would do with any of their products. "We have approached the design, engineering and making of our new campus with the same enthusiasm and design principles that characterize our products.” There had been fears that Apple had stunted in growth, but a rebound in iPhone sales lifted the US tech giants to record revenue in the last quarter and moved Samsung off top spot as the world's leading smartphone vendor.
Apple which was created out of Steve Jobs' garage and subsequently went on to reshape modern life as we know with a whole series of trend-setting gadgets celebrated its fortieth anniversary last year. Jobs, the late tech-savvy marketing genius and Steve Wozniak who invented the Apple computer formed an organization that would become the world's largest corporation with eye-popping annual profits.
The new campus is in Cupertino as well, with the Jobs Theater on a hill-top overlooking meadows and the main building. "Steve (Jobs) was exhilarated, and inspired, by the California landscape, by its light and its expansiveness," his widow Laurene Powell Jobs said in the release. "It was his favorite setting for thought. Apple Park captures his spirit uncannily well."
