Moovit, the mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) solutions firm, has launched Way Finder which features the use of augmented reality (AR) to help users better locate stations and stops.
The company has been using AR to display directions with real-world images to help users find their way to their destination with the utmost ease and efficiency.
The incentive behind the initiative, which is in its beta version and will only be available to iOS users, is to make it easier for commuters who are not intuitive with directions to navigate unfamiliar places.
Way Finder pints users toward subway entrances, bus stops and provides overall extra guidance and its future capabilities will include guiding users toward shared scooter locations and taxi pick-up points.
Yovav Meydad, Moovit’s chief of growth and marketing officer, stated, “Listening to our users about their in-app and urban mobility experiences is really important to us at Moovit.”
He added, “Getting around in an unfamiliar place can be quite frustrating and inconvenient. We are so proud that our team took what began as a very creative hackathon project to solve a user’s needs, to new heights and really drove Moovit’s evolution to the next level.”
“Way Finder makes getting to any destination a better experience, and further helps us in our mission to simplify urban mobility.”
On Moovit, once a user chooses a route, they will be able to click on “navigate” which will lead them to the live directions screen where they will be given step-by-step navigational guidance. They can also enable “get off” alerts so that they will be notified to leave the bus or train before they reach the destination.
