Florida DoT launches new traffic retiming program

Florida’s Department of Transportation (FDOT) has rewarded a smart mobility infrastructure company a contract worth $5m to improve traffic flow in Tampa.

Under the agreement of the five-year program, the company which was awarded the contract, Iteris, will use its traffic signal operations expertise to help the Florida Region reach its goal to improve the safety of all road users.

The program will focus on signal coordination and timing improvements within Florida’s District 7, home to 1100 signalized intersections. This is a key area also because it represents almost a fifth of signalized intersections in the state of Florida.

In addition to this, Iteris will provide: data collection and model management, intersection and system analysis and traffic signal timing plan development- among others.

Helmuth Arens, associate VP and traffic operations group manager, transportation systems at Iteris, said, “This initiative represents the continued expansion of Iteris’ traffic signal coordination services in a key geographic market, and will ultimately help to increase the value and effectiveness of the region’s existing transportation infrastructure, while also improving safety, air quality and reducing fuel consumption.”
