Volvo Buses has introduced its cutting-edge Volvo 7800 Electric in Mexico, revolutionizing sustainable urban transportation. As the first electric articulated and bi-articulated bus manufactured in the country, the Volvo 7800 electric is built on Volvo’s global electromobility BZR platform, transforming bus rapid transit (BRT) systems across Mexico.
This innovative vehicle’s bi-articulated model measures 25.6 meters long and can accommodate up to 300 passengers, while the articulated model can carry up to 191 passengers.
Both versions feature a 250 kWh charging capacity, designed to meet the growing demand for passenger capacity while reducing carbon emissions in Mexican cities.
The Volvo 7800 Electric is equipped with the latest active safety systems, which enhance protection for pedestrians and cyclists. The bus includes a comprehensive maintenance contract, guaranteed access to spare parts, and timely service, ensuring continuous operation. Additionally, the EV features a unique connectivity and circularity model tailored for the Mexican market.
Rafael Kisel, President of Volvo Group Mexico, highlighted, “We are accelerating the transformation to sustainable and efficient transport solutions to further improve the public transport system in Mexican cities. This will not only have a positive effect for the operators and the passengers, but it will also improve the quality of life for citizens in cities.”
Kisel added that the launch represents Mexico’s bold transition to electromobility, guaranteeing cleaner, safer, and more sustainable and reliable transport solutions for the BRT systems.
Both the bi-articulated and articulated models of the Volvo 7800 Electric will be manufactured at Volvo Buses’ plant in Mexico, with the first buses expected to be delivered by 2026.
