Smart street lighting project in UK West Midlands furthers sustainable development

A mixed-use community in the UK’s West Midlands, comprising of 25 businesses and catering to over 750 homes, has revealed its plans to install a smart energy lighting system. 

This initiative intends to act as a case study for the deployment of future smart city technologies.

IM Properties has been working with Enzen to implement its smart street lighting solution which is expected to reduce the annual lighting energy consumption rate of Blythe Valley Park in Solihull by as much as 62.5%.

Their ZenLumen smart street lighting solution, which possesses advanced telecoms and networking capabilities, will be monitored and controlled in real-time, ensuring that energy consumption and operational anomalies are detected and dealt with immediately.

They are currently devising a sustainability roadmap which has been said to potentially include further future plans for tech adoption and deployment at Blythe Valley Park.

Sanjay Neogi, head of UK and Europe at Enzen, stated, “Smart cities and smart clusters are the future. A fully integrated, efficient and sustainable development can have a positive impact on sustainability in the long-term besides the immediate energy and cost-savings.”

He added, “We hope the new smart energy lighting system can act as a model ‘living lab’ for local authorities and other business hubs as they plan their sustainable energy efficient ecosystems.”
