German car manufacturer opens digital technology center in Silicon Valley

World-renowned German car manufacturing firm Porsche has announced that it will open a new digital technology center in Silicon Valley that will lead to the creation of over 100 jobs. In a statement issued to announce the inception of the new facility - Porsche outlined that the fundamental purpose of the new 'innovation hub' will be to forge new partnerships, cooperate with venture-capital companies and invest in new companies.

Porsche which is a subsidiary of Volkswagen- launched its digital division facility in Stuttgart almost a year ago. At the time of that launch, management stressed that the digital division was created specifically to develop digital services for the premium segment in the auto industry. It was also further disclosed that the new initiative in Silicon Valley will be headed by Thilo Koslowski, who is a former digital mobility analyst at technology consulting firm Gartner.

Koslowski claimed that the car is the ultimate mobile device and that the future of the industry is being written and created in Silicon Valley. In addition to this, he stressed the importance of basing the new center in Silicon Valley - in order to lean on other IT companies to create the collaborations ultimately required to drive innovation.

He said: "The car is the ultimate mobile device of the future, and the future is being written in Silicon Valley. This means it is particularly important to be right next door to leading IT companies in the USA, as this allows us to identify trends early and invest in new technologies at the right time," Koslowski said in a statement on Friday.

Porsche Digital has already invested in venture-capital fund E.ventures US and revealed its plans to expand such activity through its office in Santa Clara, California.
