The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), supported by the Ministry of Community Development honoured the winning teams of the 4th UAE Hackathon 2021 “Data for Happiness & Wellbeing at a virtually held event.
The event took place in the presence of Her Excellency Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, minister of community development, and His Excellency Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, director general of the TDRA.
Announcement of Hackathon Winners
The winning teams were selected from each Emirate based on the best innovative creative solutions they provided.
Ras Al Khaimah: The grand prize was awarded to the CommunoHealth app project that developed digital healthcare platforms for quality online diagnostic services.
Abu Dhabi: The Smart City project for predictive model using a data platform.
Dubai: The Shield project for child digital safety.
Sharjah: Team Touchless for a project to use open data to support policymakers in times of pandemics and epidemics such as COVID-19 by developing apps.
Ajman: Team Up-Skillers for developing intelligent systems to measure productivity and enhance government performance.
Umm Al Quwain: Team R.I.C.E for presenting an idea based on converting food waste into bioplastic, with the aim of promoting green growth and transition towards a circular economy.
Fujairah: Team Madrasati for presenting an idea of developing the distance learning digital experience among students and increasing the percentage of their interaction through the digital educational process.
On this occasion, Her Excellency Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid stressed that UAE Hackathon posed a strategic knowledge and development challenge, stimulating competition at the community scale and within the open data framework in order to spread happiness and wellbeing in all UAE.
Meanwhile, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori praised the fourth edition of UAE Hackathon, which was completely organized virtually, noting that the Hackathon has become a meeting place for competing ideas, creative minds, and an occasion anticipated by motivated youth to prove that the age we live in is the age of creativity and innovation.
330 teams and 11 themes
UAE Hackathon "Data for Happiness and Wellbeing", in its 4th edition, witnessed a great turnout from various segments of UAE society across all Emirates. Total number of participants in the UAE Hackathon 4.0 reached 2,240 participants, forming 330 teams, including 24 teams in Abu Dhabi, 47 teams in Dubai, 32 teams in Sharjah, 19 teams in Ajman, 20 teams in Umm Al Quwain, and 37 teams in Ras Al Khaimah. Fujairah witnessed the largest participation with 57 teams. The percentage of females reached 54.2% of the participants.
The teams worked on finding solutions to 49 challenges presented by 21 government entities centered on 11 themes: UAE's Golden Jubilee, Digital Transformation, Travel and Tourism, Financial Technology, Entertainment and E-Sports, World-Class Health System, Security, Safety and Justice, World-Class Education System, Environment and Climate Change, Smart Sustainable Cities, Work Efficiency and Productivity Development.
In conclusion, the outcome was 100 inspiring ideas, and the ceremony saw the showcasing of these ideas in a virtual exhibition designed by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority specifically for this purpose.
