Following the digitalization of 24 essential municipal services, Muscat Governate has earned a spot in the Advanced Tier of the Government Digital Transformation Program, Tahawul. This ranking places Muscat among the top performers of 49 government entities over the past year, reflecting the Sultanate’s technological initiatives aligned with Oman Vision 2040.
Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, attributed the city’s accomplishment to technology-driven governance, which has enhanced and simplified municipal services. The governor acknowledged the dedication of the digital transformation team, whose efforts have pioneered Oman’s digital transformation model.
Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, emphasized that digital transformation is no longer a luxury but a necessity in the rapidly evolving technological landscape. Al Humaidi further noted that transformation transcends beyond service digitization, including a digital work culture for an efficient service experience.
Muscat’s digital services include building permits, security deposit refunds, burial services, construction permits, and electronic authentication of lease contracts through the Etimad platform and Baladiati mobile application. Additionally, complaint services for scrap sales, residential street lighting requests, and modern building systems auditing have been digitized.
These digital advancements have allowed residents to access municipal services easily without the need for physical office visits, marking a pivotal step toward a more efficient, transparent, and accessible governance model for Muscat.
This achievement reflects Muscat’s commitment to driving digital transformation and accelerating Oman’s broader digital strategy goals.
